guard dog extraordinaire, page one
I had previously read that, in addition to being magnificent sheep herders (which is, in case you didn't know, a rather difficult skill to exploit for cash and profit in New York City), Pembroke Welsh Corgis also like to pretend to be guard dogs on occasion. Now, this is humorous, because I can still count the individual number of times our stubby-legged Corgi Porgi has barked.
And yet, I found myself in a rather quaint position yesterday when someone knocked on our side door -- it was a gentleman, with a Con Edison designator in cursive over his car mechanic's-esque shirt. He requested admittance to check on the status of our gas meter.
As if I didn't already have enough schizoid tendencies, I'd recently heard that there have been a slew of break-ins in my area with one remarkable characteristic: In each case, the homeowner simply allowed the would-be robber in. Each of these robbers first identified themselves as employees of a certain conEdison, Inc.
